One Size Doesn't Necessarily Fit All

In the logistics industry, there are specific solutions for almost any requirement you might present, allowing you to safely continue your business without running into any complications. As a result, however, it can be a bit confusing at first to wrap your head around all of the options available to you, especially when it comes to container transport. Though each container type is somewhat self-explanatory, the sheer volume of them can be confusing, so it can help to see them listed out effectively, which our team here at WSI would be happy to do.

Sometimes It Does, Though
In the vast majority of cases, a general-purpose container will be suitable for the job at hand. These broad containers can also be referred to as 'dry containers', and are fully protected from the weather by way of being entirely enclosed on all sides. These come in a variety of alterations, including half-height, flat rack, double door, open-top, and open-side containers, and each is essentially what it says on the box. The half-height container has a lower centre of gravity to help transport heavy and dense loads, the double door container has doors on both ends to make loading and unloading goods easier, and the open top and open side containers feature more doors and openings to allow you to pack in goods that are too unwieldly to move through the narrow doors on the end of the container. The flat rack container has collapsible walls on all sides and a removable top, allowing you to convert it to a rack to transport oversized goods, such as vehicles. Finally, you can also choose to use a high cube container instead, which is simply a slightly higher general purpose container that features a variety of minor changes to the external shell to make it easier to stack and manage logistically during storage despite its larger size.

Temperature Control
If you're transporting something that is temperature sensitive, however, such as food or medication, then the general purpose containers aren't going to provide you any benefit. Instead, you will need either an ISO reefer or insulated container, as each can offer you the ability to control the internal temperature of the container. The ISO reefer container uses external power to maintain the internal temperature, whereas an insulated container will also utilise a construction that is similar in nature to a thermos.

Moving Fluids
Finally, if you're trying to transport liquids, then you're probably going to want a tank container. These tank containers are made of anti-corrosive materials to ensure that your liquid is protected on the course of it's journey, and must be filled to a volume between 80% and 95% of the total volume of the container – any less and the liquid will surge dangerously during transport, but any more and the liquid won't be able to expand in the heat without creating leaks within or outright destroying the container.
